Ontario Records 5,205 Insolvencies

Ontario recorded 5,205 insolvencies in June, up 9.1% from May and 14% from June 2025. Consumer insolvencies totalled 5,074, representing a 14.3% year-over-year increase.

Consumer Proposals Represent Most Filings

Of Ontario’s consumer insolvencies, 3,932 were proposals and 1,142 were bankruptcies. Proposals represented about 77% of consumer filings. Compared with June 2025, proposals rose 11.4%, while bankruptcies increased 25.5%.

Review Your Options Before Missing Payments

Monthly insolvency figures can fluctuate, but the increase suggests that more Ontario households are experiencing financial pressure. Homeowners struggling with mortgage and debt payments should review their options early. Refinancing or debt consolidation may help in some situations, but qualification requirements, costs and long-term interest must be considered. Anyone considering a proposal or bankruptcy should also consult a Licensed Insolvency Trustee.
